twe-movie-posterReality: Our sun will one day expand til it engulfs, not just our planet, but all of the planets (and Pluto) in our solar system. This is not a possibility. It is a fact.

However, it’s important to note that this is not expected to occur for billions of years. In the time that it will take for this to happen, it is quite possible–some may even say probable–that the human race will go extinct and that other races may evolve to a higher intelligence than even ours (let’s be honest, it’s a low bar).

Unless you buy into The Wandering Earth’s premise that this calamity is right around the corner.

The film (based on a novella by Liu Cixin) requires a suspension of disbelief, not just as it pertains to the early fuse lit under our sun’s ass, but also how Earth plans to escape the devastation (and obvious extinction of the human race). If the film’s title is not enough of a clue, humanity decides to strap a mess of rockets to Earth’s backside, and haul ass out of the solar system, by way of a fairly tricky slingshot around our solar system’s giant… Jupiter.

While the film suffers a few setbacks, on the whole, it’s a very enjoyable action science fiction film, the likes of which rarely seen coming out of China. If you’ve got Netflix, we strongly suggest you watch it, then tune in for this episode and let us know if you agree with our opinions.

Enjoy.
