I remember when Pokémon debuted. Or rather, I remember having to try to explain the concept of Pokémon to my wife, as the children had started showing interest in them.
“It’s cock-fighting for kids,” I’d replied, and proceeded to explain as she starred on with furrowed brow.
If you’d asked me then if I thought the franchise had a future, I’d have probably said no. The last twenty-five years have proven me wrong, and even converted me (at least as it pertains to the “collect ’em all” games which are addictive and fun as all hell).
For the most part however, I’ve stayed away from the films and TV series but for an initial viewing with the kids. They were never something that I would tune in to watch by myself.
And then came Detective Pikachu, which I’ve thus far watched three times… enjoying it more with each viewing.
