POSTER-MOTCThis week, Vince and I tackle a couple martial arts films from 2013: Man of Tai Chi and 47 Ronin. Both star Keanu Reeves, and both suffered because of this.

Man of Tai Chi is Reeves’ directorial debut, and while Vince stated he felt that as a debut, Reeves could have done far worse, I was quick to point out that this is a feeble excuse considering how long Reeves has been involved in cinema. He could have, and should have done better.

The film fails for a number of reasons, and didn’t strike a chord with most audience members. Certainly, there are positive aspects, such as the incredible fight scenes (not involving Reeves); however these are not enough to carry an otherwise flawed film.

POSTER-47RAnd then there’s 47 Ronin.

Vince and I have been talking about this movie for some time. I knew that I would have to find a way to make him watch it, to make up for all the terrible comic books he’s made me read over the years.

The only downside is that I too would have to watch this movie (and I use the term loosely).

Have a listen, and if you’ve seen either of these movies and would like to chime in with your thoughts, let us know in the comments. We’re always interested in our listeners’ opinions.

Enjoy.
